MADERA RANCHOS, CALIFORNIA (August 15, 2017) – After a three month break due to engine woes, Dalton Hill returned to USAC West Coast 360 action on Saturday night with a top-ten finish at Santa Maria. Hill drives the #81D Montage for Ag KPC Gowens with both wings and without wings while also competing in selected Micro Sprint races as well.

“Honestly it just felt good to get back in the car and just drive a Sprint Car again,” Hill said. “Running up front and finishing eighth was just a bonus and a great learning experience.”

Hill was 20th out of 21 cars in the qualifying order and timed in 12th quick with a 14.048 second lap. The car was very free in qualifying but with Santa Maria a track that gets heavier as the night goes on, the team elected to make minimal changes going into the heat race.

He started his heat race on the pole and searched the track while fighting tight conditions. He went on to finish third. The team went back and freed the car up for the feature. Hill lined up on the pole position for the 30 lap feature in just his second career series start.

Hill managed the pressure from starting on the pole jumping up behind Max Adams as the field went down the backstretch. A multi-car crash slowed the action behind them and gave Hill another shot from the pole. Hill drag raced Ryan Stolz for the first lap side-by-side before settling into second.

A little bit of jockeying saw Hill drift back near the bottom half of the top-ten by halfway with the left rear tire going down. The final laps were a handful as Hill nursed a flat right front and a broken left front spindle as well. The 19 year-old driver managed to hang on in the Double D’s Motorsports entry to finish eighth in a strong return to competition.

The strong learning night should bode well for Hill as they look to compete more as the season goes on. Their next scheduled race is Friday night August 25th with the wings on at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville with the Taco Bravo 360 Sprint Cars.
